Marine Corps League Scout Awards Program
The Marine Corps League truly believes that the youth of today are tomorrow's leaders. The League's Boy Scout Committee is responsible for recognizing local Boy Scout Troop Members for their accomplishments in scouting. Every scout who reaches the rank of Eagle Scout is presented a citizenship award. The ceremony is usually held in conjunction with his local troop's Court of Honor ceremony.
Upon request, a Marine Corps League # 1284 Road Detachment Marine(s) will attend your next Eagle Scout Court of Honor and present a Good Citizenship Award certificate and Patch from the Marine Corps League to your new Eagle Scout. To initiate recognition by the detachment, the supporting Boy Scout Troop should submit a request in writing to the detachment.
If you have any questions regarding the League's Eagle Scout Awards Program, please contact us via e-mail or at the following phone number. Our Detachments Scouting Coordinator for this program is Michael Drobny.
Annual Food Drive
Last year, radio station New Jersey 101.5 FM was there with its Prize Van. The Radio Station publicize this event 3 days
before and on the day the event. The event will also be reported in the area newspaper's and as-well-as the results.
This was the 3rd year that we will be holding our Food Drive at ShopRite of Somerville, located on Veterans Blvd., Somerville NJ. Hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Veterans Hospital Donations
Each year we do our annual donation to VA Hospitals. The Detachment delivers to Lyons VA Hospital several boxes of needed items. The boxes, which contained several hundreds dollars worth of clothing, was greatly appreciated and needed by the Veterans at the Hospital. The clothing consisted of 200 (each) t-shirts, boxers, crew socks, and diabetic socks.
